Swagger Masquerade Demystified
Apparently, I have caused quite a ruckus among some folks with the poem entitled Swagger Masquerade. I’ve actually received emails from different people thinking I was referring directly to them. Well, let me put every one’s mind at ease (if possible) and say that this piece isn’t directed at one specific person. I actually wrote this a while ago after being frustrated at all the personal bashing that goes on a particular social networking site (alright, if you must know, I’m referring to Downelink).
On that site, I’ve witnessed several women who were already in relationships, decide to carry on online affairs. Once caught (by either their mate or the “other woman”), the cheater proceeds to publicly bash the one who chooses to cut ties. Sometimes going as far as stalking online the woman who left, and extending the verbal assault to her ex’s new love interest.
The cheater may disappear for a while, then create a new profile and begin wooing several new women at once… only to eventually fall back into the same vicious cycle of deception. Seeing this go on one too many times pushed me to the point of extreme annoyance and so I wrote the poem. (This is actually a revised version, written from the point of view of the “new love interest” to make it a more powerful piece. I may post the original version at a later date.)
I figured I’d get a mix of responses, and I was indeed correct. And if you believe it to be a personal attack, my apologies. However, if the shoe fits… well… *shrug*
P.s. To those to have been respectful, even though you disagree with my posting of Swagger Masquerade, I thank you. And to those who sent derogatory sentiments my way, while your comments won’t be posted and I will not respond to you individually, I also thank you for spreading the news about my blog; because no matter if it’s good press or bad, a hit is still a hit in the blog counter!
